Dawn Annette (Hyde) Gill

Dawn Annette (Hyde) Gill was called home to be with Jesus on Jan. 18, 2024. Dawn was born on Sept. 25, 1960 in Pueblo, Colorado to Don and Vaunda (Fortkamp) Hyde. Dawn was baptized in Pueblo, Colorado and confirmed at Peace Lutheran.
In 1978 Dawn graduated from McCook Public School. After graduating, Dawn started working hard in the office for Gibson. She lived in Dodge City, Kansas before moving to Kearney, Nebraska to pursue her BA degree in education. Dawn began her teaching career as a student teacher for some lucky students in Omaha. After completing her student teaching, she moved to Wauneta to continue blessing her first and second grade students. Dawn gave her all to her students, constantly going above and beyond to create memorable experiences. Dawn ultimately retired from teaching in 2022 after over 30 years in the classroom.
When Dawn wasn’t in the classroom you could find her in the car traveling anywhere she could. She was always well-prepared with a bag packed containing anything she, or anyone else she was with, needed for the trip.
She married Whit Gill at St. Paul Lutheran church in 2015. They enjoyed time in Mexico, Texas and frequent visits to Colorado.
Preceding her in death was husband Whit Gill; Father Don Hyde; and grandparents Fred and Merle Fortkamp and Ethel Hinnerschietz.
Survivors are mother Vaunda Hyde; brothers Doug (Faith) Hyde and Greg (Tiffany) Hyde; nieces Austyn (Ryan) Maaske, Caitlyn and Madison Hyde (friend David Tyson), Paige (Adam) Bartlett and Chris (Janelle) Schaffert; grandnieces and grandnephews Elizabeth Schaffert, Matthew Schaffert, Willa Maaske, Aiden and Auggie Maaske, Jonah and Oscar Bartlett; and best friend, Kara (Keith) Delano.
Memorial Service will be May 18, 10:30 a.m. CST, at Peace Lutheran Church McCook with A Celebration of Life following at McCook Eagles 805 E B St. McCook, NE. In lieu of flowers, we request school supplies that we can donate to her school in her honor. She always made sure the kids had what they needed while she was teaching.
