Ardith Jean Stute, age 93, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side, on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022, at the Wauneta Care and Therapy Center.
Ardith was born on Jan. 21, 1929, at the family home south of Wauneta, Nebraska to Clarence “Harold” and Lucinda Ida (Trembly) Moon. While a young child, the family moved to a farm near Hamlet. She attended grade school in Hamlet and graduated from Wauneta High School with the class of 1946.
On June 4, 1946, Ardith married the love of her life, Frank Stute, Jr., in St. Francis, Kansas. They made their home north of Benkelman and farmed for several years. Ardith also taught in several rural schools. The couple was blessed with three daughters, Gwendolyn, Janice and Donna. The family would eventually move to the Moon family farm near Hamlet. In the early years of the 70’s they purchased the Imperial Livestock Auction Market and later Chappel Livestock Auction. In their 66 years of marriage, Ardith worked side by side with Frank. They worked hard but enjoyed life together. After Frank’s passing in 2002, Ardith moved to McCook.
Ardith was a life-time member of United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her yard and many flowers. There was always a card game around her table with good food, laughter, and fellowship with her many friends and family. She was known by everybody for her endless greeting cards and handwritten letters she sent. She was an amazing cook and known by her family for the best deviled eggs.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank Stute; daughter, Janice Buss; parents, Harold and Lucinda Moon; brother, Harold (Bonnie) Moon; and sister, Karen (John) Olmsted; parents-in-law, Frank and Hazel Stute; sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris (Harry) DeVinney, Roy (Ruby) Stute, Carl (Jean) Stute; Iva Jean (Fred) Witter, Karolyn (Tom) Howard; and Larry Stute.
She is survived by her daughters, Gwendolyn (Mickey) Brunkhorst of Wauneta and Donna (Jim) Hall of McCook; son-in-law, Terry Buss of Chappell; grandchildren, Kelly (Carey) Brunkhorst, Kimberly (Brandon) Kuykendall, Vance (Missy) Redden, Heath (Julie) Redden, Jennifer Haarberg, Sarah E. Bird, Emily Sofia, Christopher Hall and Sarah R. (Jay) Williams; brother-in-law, John (Leona) Stute of Eaton, Colorado; sister-in-law, Arlene Stute of Benkelman: numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorials may be given in her name.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 9, at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook starting at 2 p.m. CT. The family will be present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m., CT.
Funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 10, 2 p.m. MT at the United Methodist Church, Wauneta, with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta.
