A box of food items and a $300 check were donated to the Chase County Pantry last week by the Imperial Lions Club. After a club member saw the empty shelves a week earlier, the situation was brought up at last week’s Lions meeting. Members donated canned food items brought to the meeting, and voted to give $300 for the pantry to purchase additional groceries, meat, canned vegetables and fruits that are needed to stock the shelves. Nancy Terryberry, pantry board president, accepted the check and food items from Lions President Randy Hayes last Friday. She said community groups are not having the door-to-door food drives as often as in the past - one of the reasons the shelves are low on food. They appreciate the donations made at Super Foods and Butler’s Pantry that bring in funds and food items. Some churches also make regular donations, Terryberry said. The pantry is open each week on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. and is staffed by volunteers.
