Yucca Hills MX going 21 years strong

Todd and Teresa Barnard and son, Kevin, are the owners and operators of Yucca Hills MX track west of Wauneta.
They built the motocross track 21 years ago, and they have been holding yearly race events ever since.
“Each season usually has a two-day race event—one in June and one in September,” Todd Barnard said.
The two-day event held last weekend was the 21st season hosting 190 riders each day from the Tri-State Dirt Riders organization and the Nebraska Cornhusker Motocross Association, he said.
Barnard said they never know from year to year how many riders they will have. There’s been as low as 68 riders and as high as 222 per day.
“There’s always an ebb and flow of entries all over the board,” he said. “I never know how many until they roll in the gate.”
The numbers were up last weekend.
It helped running the combined series dirt riders—kind of new this time, he said.
“We are here for the community. Motocross is a great family-oriented sport,” Barnard said.
It takes a lot of people to have a successful motocross event, he said.
“Gay Leitner has helped with lap counting and scoring every year except two, and my mom, Shari Barnard, runs the scoring computer in the tower,” he added.
