Weekend full of Christmas events in Imperial, Wauneta

As December arrives and thoughts turn to Christmas, area residents can take in holiday events in Imperial and Wauneta Friday and Saturday.
Chambers in both communities are doing the planning.
Imperial’s Country Christmas Festival events are on Friday, highlighted by a lighted Christmas parade at 6 p.m. Organizer Chris Krausnick said she has several entries already committed, and more are welcome.
The parade will start from the city offices at 7th and Court Sts., travel north to 12th Street, west to Grant Street, where it will turn south and travel along Grant past the senior care facilities to 7th Street, before turning east and ending at the city offices.
Parade participants should be in line by 5:45 p.m. at the city offices.
So she can plan, parade participants should contact Krausnick at 308-882-1263.
Santa will also be in town to visit with children before and after the parade, Krausnick said. He’ll be set up by the city’s lighted tree near the city offices.
A live nativity scene is also planned at that location.
Businesses are invited to decorate their storefronts, and residents can choose a light pole to decorate with Christmas and winter themes. Both must be finished today (Thursday) for judging.
Prizes will be awarded for the parade and decorating contests. Contact Krausnick if planning to take part.
Jan Elliott is coordinating Imperial’s residential Christmas lighting contest for the chamber, from which three winners in one division will earn Chamber Bucks.
Homes that want to be judged must be finished decorating by Dec. 19 so judging can take place the next evening.
Entries are required by Dec. 15 so they don’t miss anyone by calling Elliott at 308-882-0236. An entry form also appears on page 12
Wauneta’s Santa Saturday
Despite a change from the usual—what else is new for 2020?—Wauneta’s Santa Saturday will still go on this weekend.
From 4 to 4:30 p.m. voting will be held for the best decorated lamp post. Hot cocoa and cookies will be available, as well, in front of the Senior Center and Chateau Theatre.
A DIY Christmas photo booth at the gazebo will be set up during that time.
Santa will be on Tecumseh Ave. in front of the theater at 4:30 p.m. with goodie bags for kids.
The Angel Tree will be lit in front of Sandhills State Bank. Members of Wauneta’s United Methodist Church work with Wauneta-Palisade Schools to find kids in need of extra Christmas cheer. Those needs are put on angel decorations which members of the public can stop at the bank and choose from Saturday. Those gifts can be brought back to Sandhills State Bank and UMC members will deliver the packages.
The Wauneta-Palisade PTO’s Parade of Lights will begin at 5:30 p.m.
The United Methodist Women’s Quarter Store will still be held this Saturday and Dec. 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Wauneta Senior Center.
Plans for indoor activities, such as the chili cookoff and movie at the Chateau Theatre, were cancelled at the Nov. 9 Chamber meeting after new directed health measures were announced.
