Wauneta site for hospital foundation’s Cancer Walk

October’s event will incorporate Dr. Seuss theme in activities

“I do not like cancer here or there. I do not like cancer anywhere.”
Organizers of the 2020 Cancer Walk will incorporate that Dr. Seuss theme in the annual event set for Saturday, Oct. 24, in Wauneta.
Sponsored by the Chase County Hospital Foundation, this year’s Cancer Walk will headquarter at the Wauneta school track, ending with a meal of chili, soup and cinnamon rolls, said Hospital Foundation Director Abby Cyboron.
All funds raised will support Chase County residents affected by cancer. The cancer fund can be used for treatment-associated medical expenses, as well as other costs including fuel, lodging and food. Preventative cancer care costs are included.
The Cancer Walk will kick off with registration at 3:30 p.m., followed by the walk around the track started with the cancer fighters/survivors lap at 4 p.m. Other walk participants will begin at 4:15 p.m.
The chili, soup and cinnamon rolls will be served starting at 4:30 p.m.
Individuals can register at $20 per person. Those walking as part of a team with four or more will pay $15 each.
People can register online at chasecountyhospital.com. Click on the foundation tab and then click “Registration Cancer Walk.” They can also register by calling committee member Melissa Mandeville at 308-882-7111.
Registration forms are available at businesses in Imperial and Wauneta, as well.
If walk participants want a T-shirt at the event, they should register by Sept. 28, Cyboron said. People can also register the day of the event, and will receive their T-shirt later.
In addition to the walk activities, several other events are scheduled, she noted.
All those registering will receive the Dr. Seuss themed T-shirt as well as the meal the day of the walk. Others coming for the meal only can make a free will donation, she said.
Staff will be selling Dr. Seuss arrow garden signs to decorate at the walk recognizing loved ones who are fighting or have survived the disease, or to remember loved ones who have lost their battle.
There will be a pair of raffles. One is a split the pot cash raffle and a second is for a variety of yard games including bowling, cornhole, ladder golf and yardzee. Committee members are now selling raffle tickets, and Cyboron said they will be sold Oct. 24, as well.
Business owners and other supporters in the area have already been contacted to be part of the event, too, with several levels of sponsorship available from $50 on up to $500.
With each increased level of support comes additional walk registrations, T-shirts and recognition/advertising.
Businesses interested in being a sponsor are asked to contact Cyboron by Sept. 28 at 308-882-7231.
