Veterans Memorial progressing despite delay

The Chase County Veterans Memorial construction will be delayed temporarily due to recent injuries sustained in an accident by Imperial Contracting owner Ryan Greene, who is working on the project.
A sidewalk, leading up to the central slab, has been added and forms put in place to prepare for pouring the remaining concrete.
When the concrete work is completed, there will be placement of the bronze statue, six benches, informational kiosk, lighting and re-location of the flag pole.
The memorial brick wall will be placed on an additional concrete foundation.
There has been one adjustment to the design, Dave Oxford Sr. said.
The sidewalk to be poured between the new memorial site and the existing monument will be altered slightly to accommodate handicap accessibility, he said.
The Veterans Memorial Committee manned a booth at the Chase County Fair & Expo.
The public had two opportunities to see the completed statue prior to its placement at the memorial site, said Oxford.
The intricately detailed bronze statue was on display at the fair booth and again on the parade float Saturday.
Additional information
requested for registry
New brick/registry forms are being distributed with the addition of a request for a contact person and current phone number so members of the committee can call if necessary.
The kiosk registry, to be placed at the memorial site, will be able to electronically display a veteran’s photo, bio, service awards and overseas tours.
“If anyone who has already registered a veteran would like to add this information for the kiosk, please contact a memorial committee member,” Oxford said.
