Veterans Memorial nearing completion

It’s been a long road since the conception of a veterans memorial in Chase County became a reality.
Nevertheless, it is close to completion.
After a number of “bumps in the road” and weather delays, the project got underway, and the majority of the concrete work is now done.
According to Dave Oxford, Sr., a member of the Veterans Memorial Committee, the only concrete work left is to run the footings for the memorial brick wall along the west side of the memorial site.
Following that, lighting will be installed, the flag pole relocated and the placement of the kiosk, which will display a registry of Chase County veterans’ photos, bios, service awards and overseas tours.
Another important task to complete is the building of a block pedestal for the bronze statue to be placed on, said Oxford.
“Things have really been moving along,” he said.
Five of six benches have been purchased and bear a military branch and corresponding service emblem in addition to the purchaser’s name.
“There’s only one bench left for purchase. The cost of a bench to be placed at the memorial site is $5,000,” Oxford said.
