UNMC med student on rotation at CCCH, clinics

Ryan Forney is a third year medical student at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) currently on rotation at Chase County Community Hospital (CCCH) and clinics.
Forney is a native of Omaha and will be training here until the end of January.
He said he is really excited to be in Chase County.
“This is the first real healthcare experience I’ve had to see how community healthcare needs are addressed,” said Forney.
His interest in pursuing a medical career began as a child when his mother had breast cancer, he said.
“While she was sick, there were a lot of healthcare people around. Her doctors inspired me,” he said. “Once in college, I had good mentors. I also have two cousins in medicine.”
Forney said he hasn’t chosen the area of medicine he will specialize in yet.
He said the three he is most interested in are internal medicine, radiology and anesthesiology.
Forney tries to stay active to relieve stress and stay healthy, he said.
He likes to run and work out in the gym.
“I also enjoy snow skiing whenever I can,” he added.
Forney said he is an only child, but he has a large extended family in Nebraska and Iowa.
“My parents are hosting Christmas in Omaha this year with out-of-town family going there. My plans are to go home for Christmas, too,” he said.
