UNMC med student’s family follows diverse career paths

Omaha native Parker Korbitz is a third year medical student at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) completing a six-week  rotation at Chase County Community Hospital and Clinics.
His residency is in internal medicine, but he is considering a fellowship in gastroenterology.
“I’ve always been interested in surgery, and I enjoy working with my hands. But I’m not sure I would like standing in an operating room for long hours,” said Korbitz.
He said his older sister is a surgery resident and spends long hours standing in one place.
“A lot of people have GI problems. This is an area that is less intense but still hands on. It’s a good balance I think I would like,” he said.
Korbitz said the area of medicine a person pursues should be a place they look forward to spending time in.
