Two arrested Friday on drug possession, child abuse charges

An Imperial man and McCook woman were arrested and jailed last Friday, both charged with felonies.
Four officers from the Imperial Police Department and two from the Chase Co. Sheriff’s Office were on scene about 10:50 a.m. Friday at the home of Ruben Garza, 35, at 1027 Chase Street when a search warrant was served related to a forgery case, said Imperial Police Sgt. Chad Ostmeyer.
Ostmeyer said the search warrant was acquired for checks related to a forgery case authorities are investigating, but when on scene, officers found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Garza was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (meth), a felony, while Kassandra Lopez, 22, of McCook was jailed for felony child abuse.
As of Wednesday morning, Garza remained in the Chase County Jail on $25,000 bond. Lopez bonded out after posting 10 percent of her $7,500 bond.
Officers also cited three others in the house after the warrant was served Friday.
Cited were Luis Casarez, 20, and Skylar Noe, 21, both of McCook, for misdemeanor child abuse; and Abby Murillo, 26, of Imperial for possession of drug paraphernalia, also a misdemeanor.
Ostmeyer said additional charges related to the forgery case are likely.
