Trailer court foreclosure eyed by city

Shorter cable franchise with Great Plains OK’d; 15 years were sought

Although they took no action Monday night, the city of Imperial is taking steps toward possible foreclosure of property at Capitol Court.
The foreclosure issue was on Monday’s council agenda, after trailer court owner, John Barenway of Watkins, Colorado, missed deadlines to pay a $14,803.16 assessment for costs the city assumed for removing trailers as part of the nuisance process.
A special assessment lien against the trailer court along East 12th Street was filed in October, after which the owner had 60 days to make payment, or foreclosure could proceed.
City Clerk/Administrator Jo Leyland said there has been no response from the owner during the nuisance process and notification deadlines.
The process began when two trailers on Lots 8 and 9 in the court were deemed to have nuisance violations in 2016.
