Traffic stop ends with arrest

On Friday, Jan. 9, a Chase County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop at the corner of 12th and Douglas Streets on a black Chevrolet Silverado for Careless Driving.
The driver, Marcos A. Perez, 26 of Imperial, was asked to depart the vehicle when the officer allegedly detected a strong odor of alcohol and allegedly observed multiple signs of intoxication.
Perez was detained on suspicion of driving under the influence until a second deputy arrived.
During the stop, Perez allegedly became combative and resisted deputies. The deputies deployed an Electronic Control Weapon, (ECW) or Taser, to gain compliance.
A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed two open containers of alcohol, three alleged THC concentrate vape cartridges and a vape device.
Upon arriving at the jail, Perez allegedly, continued to be combative toward staff and deputies, causing him to be placed in a restraint chair.
While being secured, Perez allegedly attempted to spit at deputies and was fitted with a spit hood.
Perez was booked into the Chase County Jail on the following charges:
Driving under the influence, 2nd offense.
Refusal to submit to a chemical test.
Resisting arrest
Assault on a police officer.
Possession of a controlled substance.
Open container.
Careless driving.
All persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Charges are subject to change, reduction, or dismissal.
