TERC corrections, bid to overlay junk yard road ok’d

Meeting as the Board of Equalization, the Chase County commissioners Oct. 8 approved the Tax Equalization and Review Commission corrections.
While all the corrections of farmground only were correct, three corrections Chase County Assessor Dotty Bartels received had errors because there were buildings or other things on the property. The amount of the corrections was small, but cannot be changed without going to the Court of Appeals.
The commissioners approved Mid-Plains Community College’s funding request. MPCC need $50,000 to reach its fund-raising goal for a new addition. The county earmarked $10,000/year over five years.
A bid of $388,790.65 was accepted for overlay on Avenue 331, also known as the junk yard road, from Shelco Construction. Jeff Tidyman requested the bid be broken down into site prep, overlay, driveways, shoulder grading and ditch seeding categories. The commissioners debated paving 11 driveways along the route and the benefits of seeding with buffalo grass, to be decided later.
Tim Varilek was appointed to the County Planning and Zoning Board. Several board members have served since it was started and are ready to resign when replacements are found.
Larry Carpenter was reappointed as county representative to the Southwest Nebraska Solid Waste Agency Board. Rob Hartman was approved as a joint member to the board pending approval by the Imperial City Council. Commissioner Dennis Kunnemann will represent the commissioners on the board. Johna Jablonski serves as the city council representative and Janet Sheaffer is the city’s representative.
