An informational meeting to gage interest in a local support group for adults who are caring or arranging care for their aging parents is going to be held on Wednesday, June 24th from noon until 1:00 p.m. at the HUB 308 Building.
HUB stands for Hometown Unity Building and is located on Sage Street between 11th and 12th street. Shona Heim will be leading this informal meeting. Feel free to bring your lunch. Drinks will be provided.
More adults these days find themselves becoming a caregiver for a family member, especially as the older demographic continues to grow.
According to the Family Caregiver Alliance, 85% of caregivers look after a relative or other loved one, and 42% of them care for parents.
Many of those who are taking care of elderly parents face their own issues of negative emotional impact and social isolation, according to a study by Stanford University.
A great majority of these caregivers for seniors say they want more information on how to care for aging parents, including such topics as dealing with stress, understanding memory illness, the improvements of our local independent living, assisted living and Manor and most importantly creating dialog between all members of our community who are feeling like they are dealing with these issues on their own.
