Sunday morning accident claims life of 33-year-old
A 33-year-old man living in southwest rural Chase County died early Sunday in an ATV rollover accident near the Chase/Dundy County line.
Chase County Sheriff Kevin Mueller said Justin McRoberts died at the scene when the Polaris Ranger he was a passenger in rolled near the intersection of 315 Avenue and 726 Road.
The driver, Devon Barrington, 34, was transported to a Denver trauma center in a life flight helicopter that landed at the accident scene. Barrington is a farm/feedlot worker employed by Bob Milner of rural Champion.
Also a passenger in the vehicle was Nicole Duncan, 33. After the accident, she reportedly walked about four miles to a farmstead to get help.
Duncan was transported by Imperial EMS to Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial, and was also flown out that morning to a trauma center in Denver.
Both Barrington and Duncan had life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff.
The sheriff’s report says Barrington failed to negotiate a curve in the road and hit an embankment, causing the ATV he was driving to roll roughly three and a half times. The ATV came to rest on top of Barrington, while McRoberts ended up 28 feet from the ATV where he died from his injuries, Mueller reported.
