Smokin’ hot dogs draw large crowd

This was the first year for a hot dog eating contest at Smokin’ on Broadway. The city gym was filled with spectators who gathered to see who could eat the most hot dogs in seven minutes and 45 seconds. Emcee Jo Leyland read off the rules, which entailed disqualification protocol and “broken knee-caps” if rules were broken or if a contestant threw up. Imperial Super Foods supplied the hot dogs, buns, ketchup and mustard. Chase County EMS members were on hand in case they were needed. There were six contestants, five youths and one adult, doing their best to out-eat each other with only water to wash it down.
