Skatepark, air-conditioned gym, rental homes show city’s progress

2017 has been a year of steady progress for the City of Imperial.
Last year as I wrote my progress report I mentioned that a group of children called the Hot Wheels had just started raising money for a skatepark in Imperial.  Much to my surprise in less than a year they raised over $50,000 and came back to the City Council to request the remaining funds to build a skatepark.  This group of 9-10 year old kids have worked hard to see their skatepark dream happen and there should be a brand new skatepark in Imperial this summer.
It is amazing what can happen when the citizens of Imperial work together for a common goal.   It has taken other communities in Nebraska more than 10 years to do a similar project.
Another event that I spoke about last year was the brand new Smokin’ on Broadway event.
The second year of that event has now come and gone.  One thing that did come from that event was the new heating and air conditioning in the city gym.
The first year of Smokin’ on Broadway had a tough time with some wet weather and had to move the concerts in the gym.  It was a good time but the gym was very hot and uncomfortable.  This year, through the LB 840, sales tax money, we were able to ensure that any future events in the gym will be comfortable.  The gym also gained a security camera system this year.
I would like to thank the children of Bill and Nancy Weir for their donation of the flag pole that is now located at the northeast corner of the city building.
