Seventh annual chili cook-off just around corner

Ladies and gentlemen, start your crockpots. The seventh annual Chase County chili cook-off is next Thursday, March 8, at the city gym.
Jack Schnieder, event coordinator, said this year’s cook-off will run pretty much the same as previous years.
“It has always run smoothly, so if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” said Schnieder.
Set-up will be at 5 p.m. with judging at 5:30. At 6 p.m., the public is invited to come sample the tasty concoctions by area chili chefs.
The only requirement for participants to enter the contest is to bring a six quart crockpot filled with their favorite chili recipe.
“I would encourage all contest participants to get creative with their chili display space. If it comes down to a tie-breaker, presentation will be the criteria for the final decision,” said Schnieder.
First, second and third place will receive $50, $25 and $15 in chamber bucks, respectively.
“There will also be a surprise award for all three places as well,” he said.
The People’s Choice award winner will receive a chili cook-off-themed embroidered apron by Platinum T-shirt & Embroidery.
Schnieder said he hasn’t had very many entries yet, but most of them sign up during the last week preceding the contest.
