Sen. Hughes holding Friday meeting on livestock expansion in county

State Senator Dan Hughes wants people to get the facts about the possible expansion of an organic dairy in Chase County.
That’s why he’s sponsoring a meeting and panel discussion of the future of livestock expansion in Chase County.
The meeting will be held this Friday at the new expo building on the Chase County fairgrounds beginning at 9 a.m.
Hughes said he called the meeting so people can get facts rather than dealing in second-hand information or the rumor mill.
He indicated he has no position on the issue and, more importantly, wants people to hear the information first-hand.
He said Aurora Organic Dairy will send a representative to participate in the meeting and panel discussion.
County Planning Commission Chair Charley Colton will also serve on the panel.
He also wants to add local livestock producers and operators to the panel to discuss the economic impact of the industry in the county.
In addition, he said a number of representatives from various livestock and ag organizations in the state also plan to attend the meeting, but will not participate in the panel.
Hughes is hoping the storm forecast for the region does not interfere with the event. If there is a cancellation due to weather, he said news and radio outlets will be contacted so they can inform their readers and listeners.
