Second annual Smokin’ On Broadway Saturday

The long awaited second annual Smokin’ On Broadway is this Saturday. Festivities are set to begin at 10 a.m. at the city office lot along Broadway, and will last the entire day.
There will be races, games, prizes, food and much more that will all come together to create a day of fun for all ages.
“It has been a long process. So many young people are coming back to the area to live and raise their kids. We wanted to host an event that brings people into the community and is special for Imperial,” said Jana Pribbeno, a member of the Chamber of Commerce’s Smokin’ On Broadway committee of seven.
Cooking competitions
Registrations for all cooking competitions are closed, but community members are still encouraged to hang out and taste samples of both the BBQ contests and the Imperial Iron Skillet Cooking Competition.
The Iron Skillet competition has 14 people registered and will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. with judging and sampling to begin at 12:30 p.m.
The two categories in the competition include appetizers and desserts.
The BBQ competition has 10 participants with judging and sampling to begin at 3:30 p.m.
Judges for the two competitions include Brenda Brandt of Holyoke, Colo., Travis Luhrs of Imperial and Andy Ohlson of Holdrege. Alex McNair will be the host.
Throughout the day, there will be various organization booths that will feature many of Imperial’s non-profit organizations, and yard games and inflatables for all to enjoy, all with zero entrance/participation fee.
Hear Nebraska tour stop
One of the main attractions will be the Hear Nebraska’s Good Living Tour concerts that start at 7 p.m. on the lawn of the Imperial city office.
Imperial natives Nick and Tyler Talbott will perform in their alternative folk/rock band, the Talbott Brothers. Rothsteen, an R&B/Soul singer from Omaha, and Universe Contest, an Indie-Rock band from Lincoln, will also perform.
Andy Norman, a Chase County High School graduate, serves as executive director of Hear Nebraska.
This marks the third consecutive year Norman has brought the concert tour to his hometown.
People are encouraged to bring their own chairs and come out to enjoy good music and food.
