Scouts’ annual Pinewood Derby fun for all

This past Sunday was the annual Pinewood Derby at the Imperial city gym.
There were 17 Cub Scouts, three Boy Scouts and four entries in the father/business category competing for first and second, Best of Show and Mayor’s Choice.
Nate Vitosh, coordinator of the event for the last six years, said, “It’s always a fun event.”
Dependent on the number of participants in each category, there are various heats that lead up to the championship round.
For building their cars, participants received a box that had a rectangular piece of wood, two axles, four tires and four nails. The width had to remain the same, but design and shape was left for the participants’ imagination and personal design.
The winners for Best of Show were:
     Father/Business—T.O. Haas, Bill White.
    Boy Scouts—Ian Moreno.
    Cub Scouts—Zariah Carmen.
    Mayor’s Choice—Jaxsen Villarreal.
In the Cub Scouts division, Jason Nelson placed first and Alex Nelson, second.
For the Boy Scouts, Cayden White placed first and Brice Vitosh, second.
In the Father/Business division first place went to Thomas Maddux and Kaci Burke received second.
