Runners, walkers gobble up chance to compete

Despite some chilly temperatures Saturday morning, a good crowd turned out for the Turkey Trot, hosted by the Imperial Zion Lutheran Church as one of the events celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The event included both a one mile and 5K race and drew 42 participants. Costumes were encouraged and runners and walkers responded. Above, participants, many in colorful garb, line up for the  one-mile Gobble Wobble. Evonne Poppe, middle, was a turkey incognito running in the Gobble Wobble race, while these Imperial Super Foods “turkeys” pose after taking third place in the costume contest, pictured below, from left, Shelley Mitchell, Becky Bernard and Desiree Loeffler. Each of them won cornish hens. See the full story and more photos in the sports section this week. (Johnson Publications photos)
