Richard Butt found guilty of child sexual assault

    Richard Butt, 67, was found guilty and sentenced last week in Hall County District Court on two criminal sexual assault of a child charges.
    If the former Imperial resident serves the maximum for the 1st and 3rd degree felonies, he will be in prison for the next 33 years.
    In a hearing Aug. 11 in Grand Island, Butt pled no contest to both charges before Judge Mark Young, so the case never went to trial.  
    While the maximum sentence for sexual assault of a child-1st degree is 50 years, Judge Young sentenced Butt to 25-30 years.
    In the second charge, sexual assault of a child-3rd degree, Butt received a 2-3 year sentence. Three years was the maximum on that felony.
    “Overall, with all of the factors involved in the case, I feel the sentence was fair and appropriate,” said Deputy Hall County Attorney Sarah Hinrichs.
    Hinrichs said her office had endorsed 20 potential witnesses in their prosecution of Butt if it had gone to trial.
    Butt was arrested March 30 at his Imperial home
