Record turnout for Mayor’s Poker Run

The sixth annual Mayor’s Poker Run was held last weekend with a record 36 riders in attendance.
Before leaving Imperial Saturday morning, riders drew a card at the city gym, then headed to Benkelman where they drew their second card.
The third stop brought riders to St. Francis, Kansas, where the group ate lunch and visited the motorcycle museum.
The next two draws were in Wray, Colorado, then Holyoke, Colorado, before the group headed back to Imperial.
Once back at the city gym, the final card was dealt via a dart board.
The night ended with a supper served by Giving Circle members.
All proceeds from the poker run will go to the Giving Circle.
The Giving Circle is a group in Imperial which meets once a month. Jo Leyland said Giving Circle members contribute a donation at each meeting, then they vote on where or who should receive the money.
“It was really hot for everybody, but I think they had a good time,” Leyland said of Saturday’s event.
Winners of the best poker hands included first place John Schilke, who won a $100 gas card. Second place went to Mark Berry, who walked away with Chase County Fair tickets to see Josh Turner. Third place’s Deb Blecha won fair concert tickets to see Hairball.
Bug spot contest winners were Jason Speck and Richard Boon. A bug splat closest to a sticker attached on their motorcycle or vehicle determines those winners.
There was also a 50/50 raffle as part of this year’s event, which brought in $230. The winner was Gavin Wisnieski, who won $115.
“His dad made him give us $50 of it back, so he had enough to cover his ride,” Leyland said.
In all, more than $2,000 was raised to allow the Giving Circle to help those in the Imperial community.
