Puzzle tourney attracts aficionados

Laughter, head scratching and competitiveness marked the annual Friends of the Lied Imperial Public Library’s jigsaw puzzle tournament Saturday. The event grows every year, with 12 teams entering this year.
Brightly colored parrots stumped the four-person teams, as the 1,000-piece puzzle was harder than it looked. The 500-piece board game puzzle seemed to be a snap for the two-person teams, featuring parts of Bingo, Chinese checkers, Monopoly and more. The winner of the two-person category was Puzzled with Rebecca Schippert and Tina Grosbach. Second place went to Silvester’s Mules, comprised of Kaylene Silvester and Deb Bauerle.
Third place went to Bewildered Beauties, or Abby McNair and Brianna Pribbeno. The winner of the four-person category was HinoFortManCarmKampHosa, or Melanie Carman, Breanna Carman, Elisha Hinojosa and Lisa Fortkamp. Second place was taken by Puzzlenutters, or Elna Johnson, Donna Winscot, Terry Yost and Brenda Brandt. Third place went to McDaySorBach, or Amber Grosbach, Shelby Day, Katie McCoy and Erica Sorensen.
Also competing were the two-person teams of G-E Puzzled Puzzlers (Marilyn O’Neil and Ella O’Neil), Oscar’s Moms (Neva Molzer and Carolyn Lee), Perspicacity & the Sundance Kid (Susan Myers and Roberta Rolfe) and J Puzzlers (Joan Wenzlick and Joyce Fortkamp).
Competing in the four-man teams category were Three Sinners and a Saint (David Kahle, Merinda Kahle, Gideon Pullmann and Mary Haarberg) and Puzzled Puzzlers (Amanda Clay, Vivian Berry, Shirley Morse and Annie Sieperda).
The first place winners in each category win free entry to next year’s competition.
