Pumpkin Run racers will compete while scarecrows lurk in Champion

October signals the beginning of many fall events.
The rich golds, oranges and reds of the season remind us that new activities are afoot.
Cox’s Pumpkin Patch is one of those destinations providing a number of fun fall events.
Coming up is the annual scarecrow contest and pumpkin run which will be in conjunction with all other activities being provided at the pumpkin patch Oct. 13 and 14.
Arlys Cupp and her mom, Jeannine Cox, invite the community to join the fun and enter their funniest, scariest or cleverest scarecrow idea for the scarecrow contest.
“There will be two divisions for scarecrow designs,” Cupp said.
The youth division is up to 15 years of age, and the adult division is for 16 years and over.
Any scarecrow design is welcome, she added. It’s all for fun and entertainment for visitors to the pumpkin patch.
“There will be prizes for all scarecrow entries in both divisions plus an additional prize for best design in each category,” Cupp said.
Scarecrows can be entered by groups or individuals.
Set up time for the scarecrows at the patch is anytime between Oct. 7-11 with deadline being Thursday, Oct. 11, at 5 p.m. Judging for the scarecrows will be that evening.
Prize winners will be posted on the scarecrows Saturday morning, Oct. 13, as the pumpkin run competition is getting underway.
Last year, there were between 12-15 scarecrow entries, said Cupp.
She is hoping for more this year to add to the enjoyment.
The scarecrows will be on display both days of the Cox’s Pumpkin Patch event Oct. 13 and 14.
For questions or more information, contact Arlys Cupp at 308-882-6361 or Jeannine Cox at 308-882-5731.
There’s no entry form. Just build a scarecrow and have it in place by the deadline.
