POW/MIA Recognition Day program this week

This Friday is National POW/MIA Recognition Day. Congress and President Jimmy Carter established it in 1979 on the third Friday of September each year to recognize and honor these soldiers.
In observance of this day, there is a presentation and display called the Missing Man Table where a narration is given along with an explanation of the symbolism of each item on the table. This ceremony is referred to as “The POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony.”
The presentation will take place this Friday at the Imperial VFW Post 4688 canteen, beginning with a social hour at 5 p.m. followed by the ceremony at 6 p.m.
Eric Gonzalez, a retired U.S. Marine, will be conducting the presentation. Following the ceremony, snacks will be provided and veterans will have a chance to visit and share their memories.
Gonzalez felt it was very important to honor POWs and MIAs who sacrificed so much. The symbolic POW/MIA flag appropriately has written across the bottom, “You Are Not Forgotten.”
