Police remind residents, no mini bikes on streets

    With summer in full swing and kids out of school,  the Imperial Police Department has noticed an increase in mini bikes and small electric dirt bikes being ridden on the city streets and public property. They would like to make sure everyone is aware of the City rules.
    Under Imperial City Ordinance, it is unlawful to operate a mini bike on any street, highway, or city owned public land within the city limits.
    Things that count as a mini bike include, but are not limited to:
    Small gas or electric dirt bikes.
    Pocket Bikes
    Pit Bikes
    Mini motocross Bikes
    Any two-wheel motor vehicle with tires smaller than 14 inches, a seat height under 25 inches, or an engine under 45cc- or any vehicle designed primarily for off-road use.
    Exceptions do exist for public emergencies and organized parades through recognized community organizations.
    While the Police Dept. understands that these vehicles are fun for kids and families, they want to remind everyone that the city streets/sidewalks and public parks are not safe or legal places to ride them.
    The Police ask parents and guardians to talk with their children about where these vehicles can and cannot be operated.
