Pheasants Forever annual banquet nets funds for habitat, mentor hunts

Fund-raising for pheasant habitat and youth mentor hunts in the area were the goals at Saturday’s 27th annual Southwestern Nebraska Pheasants Forever (PF) banquet and auction.
The city gym in Imperial was nearly full for the meal and auction events.
Banquet chairman Joe Weiss said about 180 people attended the banquet. Chapter President Heather Francis estimated about 30 youths were among them.
“It’s become a family event,” she noted.
Three of the youths attending Saturday participated in last fall’s youth mentor hunt. The rest came with their families, she said.
Several auctions awarded prints, guns, hunting/fishing equipment and other items. Several of the prizes went to the youths.
Weiss noted 14 of the youngsters went home with BB guns donated by Don and Jan Banks of Imperial.
The PF 2016-17 Print of the Year, titled “Hasty Exit,” was purchased by Scott Way of Imperial. The chapter also awarded another “Hasty Exit” print to one of the banquet sponsors. Mike and Cindy Liewer won that in a drawing.
