Overnight camping at Enders readies for reopening; online system not up yet midweek

Reservations taken only online for now

With the first big holiday weekend of the summer almost here, some good news is out for camping enthusiasts who enjoy Enders Lake Recreation Area.
After suspension of overnight camping at state parks across Nebraska due to COVID-19, guests can once again camp overnight in recreational vehicle (self-contained) units at state park areas starting Wednesday this week, announced Game and Parks officials.
All state parks with electrical sites are reopening overnight camping this week. Enders will be among that group when the online site is ready for taking those reservations.
Campers hoping for one of the 38 spots at Enders this Memorial Day weekend must reserve it online, said Game and Parks Supt. Beau Licking.
Online reservations opened earlier this week, Licking said, at: nebraskastateparks.reserveamerica.com. But as of Wednesday, Enders isn’t yet listed.
Twenty-one sites will reopen at Enders at the main entrance, west of the golf course. The other 17 are located by the shower house south of the main entrance, Licking said.
Licking emphasized that only RV or self-contained camping is being allowed when Enders opens, and reservations must be made at least one day in advance of arrival.
Tent camping is not yet allowed, Licking said. And, that means tents next to campers, too.
It’s going to be a different opening weekend, Licking said, but he predicts the camping areas when they open at Enders will be fairly busy.
“People are itching to get out. I’ve been getting a lot of calls from Kansas and Colorado, too,” he said.
Lately, Licking said they are fielding about 20 calls and emails a day with questions about park services.
“I’m expecting calls to increase. I’ll be happy when things get back to normal,” he said.
Fishing, boating and hiking at Enders have never been discontinued.
