Outstanding Citizen awards presented

The first-ever Imperial Outstanding Citizen awards were formally presented during the city’s annual appreciation banquet held Saturday night at Broadway Steakhouse. Councilman Chad Yaw recommended the council create the new awards after seeing the positive effect of the awards in another Nebraska community. There are two awards—one for youth ages 18 and under and one for citizens 19 and older. The youth award went to nine-year-old Trevin Moreno for his fundraising efforts on the proposed skate park. He said he and his friends have already raised $15,000 towards the project. Doug and Judy Gaswick received the Outstanding Citizen Award as a couple. Both are active in community events and affairs and volunteer for a number of local organizations.
