Organizers ready for another Smokin’ weekend

Smokin’ on Broadway will kick off this Saturday with the first session of the Escape Room at 8:30 a.m.
Unfortunately all sessions for the Escape Room are already full, committee member Jana Pribbeno said.
Next on the schedule will be the bike parade, a new event this year, that will travel around the block starting at 9:30 a.m., being organized by the Imperial Lions Club. All ages can participate, and all will receive a prize, incoming Lions President Sheryl Curtis said.
All modes of non-motorized transportation are welcome, including bikes, strollers, scooters and feet.
Curtis is encouraging participants to dress in costumes. Vehicles can be decorated, too.
Leading the parade will be volunteers from the music program at Chase County Schools, directed by CCS alum Amber Stumpff.
Participants for the parade should arrive at the Lied Imperial Public Library (south side) no later than 9:15 a.m., Curtis said.
There are returning food contests this year, and some new ones on the schedule.
“We’ve switched gears this last week for the hot wings competition and are using one sauce and going with whoever eats the most wings within 10 minutes is the clear winner,” Pribbeno said.
The wings will be sauced with the same “super hot sauce.”
“Whoever eats the most without getting sick and survives a five-minute after burn is the winner,” committee member Tyler Pribbeno added.
The prizes for the wing contest have increased with that in mind.
There is also a new hot dog eating contest this year, and a new salsa making competition (salsa sampling/People’s Choice voting at 2:30). Returning is the popular Iron Skillet contest.
