Opioids not a major problem in county

While much current national discussion has focused on the opioid crisis, that apparently hasn’t hit Chase County very hard.
“We have problems with meth, but we haven’t really seen a lot of problems with opiate abuse,” Chase County Sheriff Kevin Mueller said. “I’m sure it goes on, but we have not had a lot of cases with that.”
Mueller is unsure why this area has been spared a problem ravaging much of the country.
“Maybe we’re a little smarter in western Nebraska,” he said. “Maybe they’re more responsible in taking their pain medications. Maybe the doctors are a little reluctant to prescribe that stuff any more.”
