Not much time left for on-time Christmas mail

The Imperial Post Office will be closed Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Dec. 24, Christmas Eve, the post office will be closing at 3 p.m., said Barb Prottsman, postmaster.
The post office will resume regular hours on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, 2020, she said.
All USPS blue collection boxes will be serviced as regularly scheduled except for the two holidays.
The post office has been  seeing increased activity as customers are sending and receiving additional holiday mail, said Prottsman.
Recommended send-by dates for Domestic Mail (excluding Alaska & Hawaii) expected to be delivered before Dec. 25 are:
    First-Class Mail Service—Dec. 20
    Priority Mail Service —Dec. 21
    Priority Mail Express Service—Dec. 23
    USPS Retail Ground—Dec. 14
According to the USPS site, Priority Mail Express will be delivered on both Christmas and New Year’s Days.
Lines at the post office are, at times, longer than usual.
Some customers take advantage of the opportunity to visit and catch up while they wait.
“The busiest mail days are expected to be Dec. 15-20,” said Prottsman.
It is suggested that holiday mail and packages be mailed early for timely delivery and to avoid the Christmas rush.
