Nominations sought for city’s outstanding citizens for 2021

Despite no awards banquet or place of honor in the Chase County Fair Parade this year, the city of Imperial still wants its outstanding citizen recognition to continue.
For a fifth straight year, the city council plans to choose its outstanding citizens for 2021—one for youths age 18 and younger and one for 19 and older.
Clerk/Administrator Jo Leyland said the procedure to nominate is the same as in years past—fill out a form at the city office, or simply jot down why your nominee should be chosen.
Then, leave nominations at the city office by Friday, Jan. 15. They can also be emailed to jol@imperial-ne.com, or mailed to Box 637, Imperial 69033.
The city council will make their selections following their Jan. 18 meeting.
Leyland said, in years past, the outstanding citizens are recognized  at the annual City Appreciation Dinner and then have a place in the parade at the Chase County Fair.
“That didn’t happen in 2020 and who knows about 2021,” Leyland said.
The citizens will still be chosen, despite the specific ways to recognize them still up in the air.
    Previous winners have been:
2020—Dennis Batterman, Imperial FFA senior parli pro team.
    2019—Chris Lee, Parker Dillan.
    2018—Jill Moline, Hayley Vitosh.
2017—Doug and Judy Gaswick, Trevin Moreno.
