New pastor welcomed at First United Methodist Church

The First United Methodist Church (UMC) in Imperial welcomed its new pastor when she delivered her first sermon on Sunday.
Deb Copple came to Imperial from Olive Crest United Methodist Church in Omaha.
While her first day at UMC was last week, she arrived in town earlier.
“Since I came from Omaha I decided to quarantine myself” due to COVID-19, Copple said.
“There are very few cases in this area and I didn’t want to be the one to bring it to Imperial,” she added.
She has had no symptoms of COVID and is enjoying getting to know church members and the community of Imperial.
Copple was raised in a small town in Iowa, so Imperial’s size isn’t concerning to her.
Copple attended courses at the St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City to become a pastor.
She and husband Curt have been married for 20 years and have a blended family of three adult children.
Copple had alerted the Great Plains Conference of the United Methodist Church that she was open to a position in western Nebraska.
“I’m very much looking forward to a small town life where I can be more involved in the community,” Copple said.
In their free time, the couple enjoys biking, movies and singing.
“We don’t play instruments, but we sing,” Copple said.
They also enjoy bible studies, “and we enjoy them more when someone else leads,” she laughed.
