Deb Hrcka, Chase County Hospital Foundation assistant executive director, is wearing another hat in her desire to help people.
Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 28, she will be leading an eight-week-long grief recovery support group in the conference room at Chase County Community Hospital (CCCH) at 6:30 p.m.
Hrcka completed an intense training program in the Grief Recovery Method (GRM), an evidence-based program using collected facts over a period of 40 years, she said.
CCCH announced her certification as a grief recovery specialist in November 2019.
Hrcka is no stranger to loss and emotional trauma in her life, which has afforded her a familiarity with the types of feelings and struggles this group is for, she said.
The idea behind the program is people helping people, said Hrcka.
“I am not a counselor. I’m here to help people using the training and tools taught to me as a GRM grief recovery specialist,” she said.
Not just about death
The GRM has the ability to significantly improve a person’s knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and behaviors surrounding their grief or hopelessness, according to the GRM online site.
“It’s not just about the loss of someone in death. It can be a loss of health, faith, a job, a business, divorce, empty nest syndrome, loss of a limb, hidden trauma from childhood and much more,” Hrcka said.
