New events added to Smokin’ on Broadway

Signup deadlines for barbecue, Iron Skillet contests nearing

New events will greet attendees at next month’s Smokin’ on Broadway June 23.
While the popular barbecue contests (wood-fired and baked beans), Iron Skillet Contest and on-site painting competitions will return, several first-time activities and contests are in the works, said committee member Jana Pribbeno.
New events this year include  a “not-so-fun” 5K race, the Lied Imperial Public Library’s Escape Room, a hot wings contest sponsored by Pizza Hut, skateboarding school/demos at the new Imperial skatepark and five new bands for the Rabble Mill concert as part of Nebraska’s Good Living Tour.
Also returning to Smokin’ on Broadway this year are the human-sized foosball, Jenga and Scrabble games, the .05K race, the library’s pub quiz and food and beverage vendors. Kids will also enjoy the inflatable play area and some organizational booths will be on hand.
Bands confirmed for the Rabble Mill concert starting at 7 p.m. that night include Salt Creek of Lincoln (indie-rock), Kait Berreckman of Omaha (alternative country), Conny Franko of Omaha (hip-hop), Domestic Blend of Omaha (soul pop) and special guests I Forgot To Love My Father (indie-rock).
