New event predicted a fair crowd-pleaser

On Sunday, Aug. 19, the last day of the Chase County Fair will wrap up a week of events with the Hot Rod Tractor Pull, sponsored by Heartland Pulling Series.
This new event is being promoted by the Chase County Fair Board and is expected to provide excitement and thrills for all ages, said Chad Oxford, fair board president.
This will be the first time the Heartland Pulling Series will put on the tractor pull in Chase County.
“The last time we had a tractor pull of this caliber was in the late ‘70s, early ‘80s,” said Dirk Bauerle of Imperial.
Over the last 16 years, the Sunday event was sponsored by the Platte Valley Truck and Tractor Pullers.
The event was strictly antique tractors, 1960 and older, and later model stock and modified trucks, Bauerle said.
“There’s a huge difference in this new event from years past. Antique tractors have 10 to 50 HP (horsepower) and the trucks were 200 to 300 HP,” he said.
The tractors in this year’s event will have from 600 to 2500 HP, he added.
Bauerle is a seasoned tractor pull competitor with both antique and modified turbo tractors.
He has competed with antique tractors for all 16 years at the Chase County fair and modified turbo tractors eight years in different areas of the country.
There are seven sanctioned classes of competition.
The classifications are Small Block Economod, Pro Street 4x4, Big Block Economod, Light Limited Super Stock, Limited Pro 4x4, 8000 lbs.  Light Limited Pro Stock and Modified.
Each class has specific rules that must be met to qualify for competition, he said.
