New automatic car wash going in on Imperial’s main street

    A new automatic car wash is planned on Imperial’s main street, and will fill a lot that’s been vacant.
    Brett Petersen of St. Francis, Kansas is owner of the soon-to-be constructed drive-through car wash, which he hopes to have operational by mid to late summer.
    Work was underway the past week by Kruger Backhoe Service removing some of the concrete on the northeast lot at 3rd and Broadway Streets. Petersen purchased the main street property from Harchelroad Motors.
    Petersen said they are tearing out the concrete where the new building will sit, as well as some additional footage around it.
    He said Tuesday the car wash will have one bay for the drive-through wash. No self-service will be offered.
    After opening his first car wash in St. Francis, he said he wanted his next one to be located in a larger community.
    Imperial fit that bill, as St. Francis has about 1,000 people. He also said he’s in Imperial about once a week selling cattle.
    “I thought Imperial would be a good location because I’m there quite a bit and that would work out well for me. It’s also a very progressive town,” he said.
