New holiday stamps for 2020 have arrived at the Imperial Post Office, featuring both religious and contemporary choices.

New 2020 Christmas stamps ready for holiday mailings

    With just over four weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, it’s a quick turn-around from thinking turkey to the holidays.
    That means holiday mailing, and the Imperial postmaster thinks there will be even more of it this year due to COVID-19.
    Postmaster Barb Prottsman said they are already seeing an uptick in mail and packages, both in and out. That’s likely because more people are staying home right now, possibly ordering even more online than other Christmas seasons due to the virus.
    “We’ve really been busier since March,” she said.
    That’s when COVID-19 cases started popping up in the area, and initial Directed Health Measurers (DHMs) were put in place.
    Christmas cards are also starting to arrive and be mailed out, and the Imperial Post Office is well stocked with the three new Christmas stamps
    New holiday stamps for 2020 include ones depicting Our Lady of Guápulo, winter scenes and holiday delights.
    This year’s religious Christmas stamp features a detail of the painting “Our Lady of Guápulo.” Painted in the 18th century by an unknown artist in Cuzco, Peru, “Our Lady of Guápulo” is from the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection in New York and includes Mary and the child in gold and bronze coloring.
    The winter scenes group celebrates the beauty and serenity of seasonal sights amid snowy landscapes. The 10 different photographs in this booklet of 20 stamps showcase the special allure of winter, with iconic scenes from the northern United States.  
    The holiday delights group of stamps was inspired by folk art but with a modern graphic vibe. In red, green and white
