Mural winner announced for 12th Street Fence Project

    The winner of the mural contest is Jorja Dannar, a senior at Chase County Schools, with a painting called “Waterfall.” In May, a 130 foot wood fence located at 1145 Wellington, running east and west along 12th Street, was made available by a local couple for a mural-painting contest. It was divided into eight sections and individuals or groups could paint a mural in a subject of their choosing.
    The community was asked to vote for their favorite mural by donating any sum of money earmarked for a particular mural. The mural with the most donations won an additional $1,000 presented by an anonymous donor. Dannar was surprised and excited she won, she said. She plans to put the money toward her college fund. She is planning on attending the University of Nebraska at Kearney and majoring in psychology. The owners of the fence are planning another contest next year. (Johnson Publications photo)
