MPCC announces spring class list
Mid-Plains Community College’s (MPCC) newly announced spring class list has a wide variety of options ranging from accounting to kayaking.
There are both for-credit classes and community education classes offered at MPCC.
Community education classes are open to the general public. They are geared towards people wanting to improve on a particular skill set or learn something for fun.
“The college looks at it as giving back to the community,” said Carla Colton administrative assistant at MPCC’s Imperial campus.
Along with Brenda Ledall, Imperial campus coordinator, Colton and a few work study students keep the Imperial campus running smoothly.
“We just get busier and busier, but we have really good students and good instructors,” said Colton.

The community education classes offered at the Imperial campus include:
Circle of Security—Early Childhood Education; The Circle of Security parenting program is an eight week program based on years of research about how to best support and strengthen parent-child relationships. March 2-April 20 6-8 p.m., Carol Kunnemann, free.
Standard First Aid/CPR. March 14 and March 21, 6-10 p.m., Billie Hayes.
Taekwondo—Participants learn basic self-defense, honing in on their skills in balance, speed and precision. Adult class is for all belt levels, working to test to the next belt level by end of sessions. Children 5-8 years March 16-April 20, 5:30-6:30 p.m., City Gym, Shipp, $90 plus $35 uniform fee; adults March 16-April 20, 6:30-8 p.m., City Gym, Shipp, $120 plus $35 uniform fee.
Easter Learn and Play—Plant some seeds and learn to take care of plants. Wear old clothes to color eggs. April 8, 9-10:30 a.m., Rhonda Hill and Tammy Siverson, $15.
Calligraphy Basics—Embark on a fun creative class with Susan Hanson. You will learn calligraphy styles to enhance card making, newsletters and special projects of your choice. April 4-May 9, 6-9 p.m., $99 plus $20 manual; senior citizens $44.50 plus $20 manual.
Human Trafficking—Glen Parks, Coordinator of the Nebraska Human Trafficking Task Force, will educate the community on warning signs and communicating to save someone from being exploited. March 24, 7-9 p.m., Lied Imperial Public Library, no charge; and March 25, 9:30 a.m., Chase County Schools, no charge.
Disc Golf (frisbee golf)— Learn the rules of the game and play a few rounds onsite at Campbell Park. March 29, 10 a.m.-12 noon, Joey Lefdal, $20.
I Love my Mom and Play—Experience parachute team building skills and investigate plant progress. Parents please bring a small picture of your child. May 6, 9-10:30 a.m., Rhonda Hill and Tammy Siverson, $15.
Kayaking for Adults—Learn the basics of kayaking while enjoying a trip around Champion Mill Pond. Safety and rowing techniques will be discussed. May 25, 4-7 p.m., Champion Mill Pond, Scott Eveland, $29.
