More file for commissioner, Imperial city council seats

Interest continues to be seen in county and city elected offices this year, with six more people filing the past week.
Today (Thursday) marks the final day for first-time potential office-holders to file if they want to make this year’s ballot.
County Clerk Debra Clark said her office will be open an additional hour until 5 p.m. Thursday to accommodate last-minute filers.
Three more have filed for the open county commissioner seats this year, two for the Dist. #3 post now held by Don Weiss Jr., who did not file for re-election, and another one for the Dist. #2 seat now held by David Hogsett, who has filed.
Mark Davidson of Lamar and Dennis Kunnemann of Imperial both filed last week for the Dist. #3 seat, and both on the Republican ticket. They join Sid Bartels, who also filed for the Dist. #3 seat, and also as a Republican.
Jacci L. Brown of Champion filed as a Republican for the Dist. #2 seat held by Hogsett, also a Reoublican.
The recent filings will create a Primary run-off for both commissioner seats to determine who advances to the November General Election.
The two incumbent city council members, Charlesa Kline and Chad Yaw, who are seeking re-election will have a couple of challengers. Blake and Darcy Moreland both filed last week for the two non-partisan council seats up for election this year.
A third candidate filed on Tuesday this week for the Wauneta-Palisade board of education. Marty Wheeler joins incumbents Allison Sandman and Laurie Maris in seeking the three seats open.
There are also a number of village board and public power board seats up for election in November. Those incumbents have until July 16 to file, with new filers  having until Aug. 1.
Nebraska’s Primary will be held May 15, with the General Election set for Nov. 6.
Below is the full list of candidates in local races who had filed by Tuesday this week.
