Monday storm gives Chase County reprieve from dryness

After a smattering of rain Sunday night, much of Chase County got some much needed moisture Monday night.
Unfortunately, those storms brought some damaging hail and wind.
On Sunday, rain in the Imperial and Champion areas proved quite spotty with 0.31 of an inch as the most reported southwest of Champion, with some areas receiving no moisture at all.
But the storm also brought significant hail damage south of Imperial and Champion.
Crop insurers said the hail trimmed the top out of corn that was just beginning to tassle, essentially ruining the crop.
Hail the size of tennis balls, along with high winds was also reported by a NERain observer 7.6 miles south of Imperial.
