Misuse of city gym being addressed

Imperial’s City Gym was one of the topics on the agenda at the Park Board meeting March 11.
Jo Leyland, city clerk/administrator, addressed the board with a situation that occurred recently.
The Southwest Nebraska Entrepreneur group (SWNE) had rented the gym on March 9 for a craft show, and business owners had set up the gym with tables and displays of their items.
“Sometime Friday evening, someone used their key to come into the gym to play basketball. Seeing the setup, they moved the tables and used the gym to play,” Leyland said.
The rented space, left in disarray, was the scene SWNE business owners saw when they arrived Saturday morning.
“The entrepreneur group was concerned about their merchandise being handled and knocked over, tables moved and basketballs left out for them to pick up,” said Leyland.
She also stressed the disrespect that was shown toward the group that rented the gym for their event and their property that was on display.
Cameras are installed in the gym to record all activity. After reviewing the recording, the cardholder was identified.
