Markee continues leukemia treatment in Denver

Harley Markee, a sixth grader at Chase County Schools and the daughter of Brad Markee and Melissa Markee, was diagnosed with leukemia in September.
She completed the school day on Sept. 6, but had a doctor’s appointment at the Chase County Clinic later with complaints of fatigue and  feeling “sluggish.”
“Based on blood results, (the clinic) suggested that she be transferred to Rocky Mountain Children’s Hospital in Denver,” her aunt Jessica (Markee) Framke said.
Harley was eventually diagnosed with dual lineage leukemia, or what is sometimes referred to as MPAL.
She has been receiving outpatient treatments in Denver since October, adding she isn’t a fan of Denver.
“It’s not my style. I guess it’s too big of a city,” Harley said.
She has been allowed to have some visitors, “but they don’t want too many with my counts being so low,” she said.
Treatments are going well, her dad, Brad, said.
“She just started the second phase which is called the consolidation phase,” he added.
At the CCS volleyball game against Hershey last week, the Lady Longhorns wore Team Harley T-shirts during warm up.
“We just wanted to support her and let her know we were thinking about her and cheering her on,” Head Coach Sam Kennedy said.
Markee is thankful for cards and gifts that have been sent.
“Puzzles, board games, Barnes & Noble and Starbucks gift cards are all things that she could use,” Framke said.
Cards can also be mailed to P.O. Box 1344, Imperial, NE 69033, which will then be transferred to Denver.
T-shirts are available on Platinum T-Shirt and Embroidery’s website, and Team Harley bracelets are available at Platinum and 509.
