Local man selected as AKSARBEN escort

    Samuel Haarberg of Imperial was honored to be selected as an escort for the AKSARBEN Coronation & Scholarship Ball. The event was held at Baxter Arena in Omaha on Oct. 28.
    Sam is the son of Elizabeth and Dirk Haarberg of Imperial. He expects to graduate from the University of Nebraska Lincoln next spring with a degree in agricultural economics.
    The mission of the AKSARBEN Coronation & Scholarship Ball is to promote, recognize and celebrate volunteerism, philanthropy and civic pride.
    AKSARBEN was established in 1895 to recognize individuals in the region for their civic endeavors.
    The Coronation & Scholarship Ball is the primary fundraising source for the AKSARBEN Scholarship Fund.      
    The Scholars program awards over 200 scholarships each year to deserving students in Nebraska and western Iowa.
    His mother said that Sam enjoyed the experience and meeting students from all over the state.
    “It was truly an honor for him and the family to be chosen,” she said.
