Lions have one of best years for bingo at fair

There were a lot of quarters laid on the playing surfaces at the 2017 Chase County Fair bingo stand during its annual four-day run. Operated by the Imperial Lions Club as its major fundraiser, treasurer Miles Colson reports a gross total of $11,638 was collected this year from more than 600 games Wednesday through Saturday. He said that ranks as the fifth highest since 1994. Above, from left, Carson Terryberry, Malachi Christensen and Cooper Dillan all believe they have the winning cards for this game of bingo, as volunteer Julie Sharp collects their quarters, Below, Tiffany Allen and daughter Sofie look through the stack of bingo cards, hoping to win a prize in their last chance to win Saturday night. In addition to its members, the Lions Club relies on many community volunteers to staff the three-hour bingo shifts over the four days at the fair. (Johnson Publications photos)
